In the region of Basilicata the weather could be
cool and possibly a little rainy during May. On the west coast (Maratea
and Sorrento) warmer, but probably not hot. The maximum temperature in
Napoli for May is 73 F and the minimum 53 F. The maximum temperature in
Potenza for May is 64 F and the minimum 48 F. These averages are from
1961 to 1990. We will be there the second half of the month, which
means we should be nearer the maximum temperatures, but who knows?
Italy, like all places in the world, is experiencing unusual weather

I recommend clothes you can layer. A light a jacket that could serve as
a raincoat with a sweater worn underneath as needed would be a good
choice. Something for a head cover – a coat/jacket with a hood or a
rain cap/hat. There could be some wind in the mountains. The mountains
aren’t so high that they retain snow in the summer. |
